Maximize the usage of your solar energy

Make your electric fleet future-proof, cost-effective, and sustainable - with solar power for your electric fleet!

Decreasing feed-in tariffs and increasing electricity costs make it economically sensible to use self-generated solar power from the PV system to charge your own electric vehicles. The key to the success of corporate solar charging is intelligent charging management, which controls the flow of energy so that electric vehicles are charged when solar energy is available.

Cost-saving charging

By generating their own solar power and charging surplus PV energy, businesses can reduce their energy costs and increase their financial independence.

sustainable driving

When electricity for mobility is sourced from renewable sources, CO₂ emissions can be reduced by up to 70% over the lifetime of an electric vehicle. The aim should therefore always be to maximise the use of PV electricity to charge electric vehicles.

stay independent

You can use your PV power for charging regardless of fluctuations in the grid and power cuts by the grid operator. This prevents outages and issues with vehicle availability, making you independent of fluctuating prices as well.

Management & Monitoring

Management of the solar installation with differently oriented collectors at one location in a clear dashboard.

02

PV charging

Real-time solar power data is used to charge electric vehicles when sufficient PV power is available.

03

Weather Forecasts

To maximise the use of PV power as propulsion energy, the software uses weather forecasts to schedule charging.

04

Check yields

Historical data can be accessed to provide an overview of past solar yields.

This is how Solar charging works

For charging your electric cars with solar energy, in addition to a charging station or wallbox, an additional meter (smart meter) is installed behind your existing electricity meter. It measures the surplus of generated solar power. These data are then forwarded to an intelligent energy and charging management system. This intelligent system charges the electric vehicles taking into account various factors such as departure time and desired charging quantity, storage, and data from other consumers.

Solar Charging with IO-Dynamics

With our intelligent energy and charging management, you can not only view all the information from your multi-tilt solar array in one place on a clear dashboard, but you can also integrate weather data and real-time solar performance data into your electric vehicle charging schedule. With access to historical data, you can also gain valuable insight into past solar yields.

FAQs Solar Charging for electric vehicles

Can I charge my electric car only with solar power?

Usually not exclusively. Electric vehicles can be charged with solar power, but if the solar power is insufficient, it automatically switches to grid power. The amount of solar power charged depends on various factors such as the size of the photovoltaic system, the weather, and the charging management. With IO-Dynamics' charging management, surplus solar power from the photovoltaic system is optimally utilized thanks to solar forecasts and data collection from all components.

Can I customize the charging strategy for my electric vehicle?

Yes, modern intelligent charging management systems allow you to adjust the charging strategy. For example, you can set the departure time, the desired charge quantity or other parameters to adapt the charging to your needs. Intelligent charging management will always design the optimal charging strategy, ensuring cost-effectiveness and low CO₂ emissions while maximising vehicle availability.

How can I ensure that my electric car is always charged with solar power?

Optimal planning and configuration of the charge management system can ensure that your electric car is charged preferentially with solar power. This can be done taking into account the weather forecast, time of departure and other factors to make the best use of excess solar power. Intelligent charge management optimises, i.e. maximises, charging with PV power at wallboxes and charging stations.

How is the surplus solar power determined for charging the electric car?

The surplus solar power for charging an electric car is typically determined through "Smart Charging" technology. This involves comparing the current energy output of the solar installation with the energy demand of the electric car.

What components are needed for solar charging?

PV charging requires a photovoltaic system to generate electricity, a charging station or wallbox for the electric vehicle, an additional meter to measure the solar surplus, and intelligent energy and charging management to control the charging strategy. It is advantageous to have manufacturer-independent charging management solutions that can be integrated into the charging fleet retrospectively and independently of the hardware.
