IO-Dynamics supports roll Firmengruppe in fleet electrification

roll Firmengruppe is going electric and is relying elephi, IO-Dynamics' intelligent load and charge management software, to keep operations running smoothly. At its Crailsheim site, IO-Dynamics partner SPL Powerlines installed six DC charging points based on Kempower satellite technology. To fund the investment, roll Firmengruppe made strategic use of available grant programmes, including KSNI and PTJ.

Infrastructure built for real-world operations

elephi manages charging for two Volvo FH 540 Electric trucks and four passenger cars across the six DC charging points, with access controlled via RFID cards. The platform draws on live vehicle data including state of charge and charges on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis: each vehicle gets what it needs, when it needs it. Charging processes are coordinated and matched to actual operational requirements, while those responsible at roll have full visibility at all times, seeing which vehicles are charging and tracking live charge status directly in elephi.

"We wanted infrastructure that just works, day in, day out, without us having to constantly manage it. IO-Dynamics delivered exactly that: elephi runs quietly in the background, and the vehicles are ready to go when we need them," says Horst Wagner, Managing Director at roll.

One of the DC charging points is also open to external fleets via Depotcharge. Operators can find it, select it, and book it directly on the platform. Access is fully automated via RFID or MAC address, and Depotcharge takes care of billing end to end. For roll, there is no additional workload. Capacity that would otherwise sit idle during quiet periods becomes a new revenue stream, while elephi ensures the company's own fleet always takes priority.

The logistics operator at the centre

roll Firmengruppe is a strong example of logistics businesses that treat the shift to electric mobility not as something to plan for, but as something to act on now. They bring what it takes: the commitment to electrify, the willingness to invest, and the expectation that technology serves the operation rather than the other way around.

"What we value about working with roll is their clarity of purpose. This isn't about making a statement; it's about building a fleet that's ready for the future. That mindset is what makes electrification at scale possible, and it's exactly the kind of customer we're here for," says Johann Olsen, CEO & Co-Founder of IO-Dynamics.

Mid-sized logistics operators face the same structural challenges as large fleet operators, often with fewer resources and less time to navigate technical complexity. IO-Dynamics sees its role as bridging that gap, from the first conversation through vehicle integration to smooth day-to-day operations.
